Georgiadis Park is just a few steps away from Eleftherias Square, opposite the statue of El. Venizelos, and is one of the largest green spaces of the city providing a pleasant, refreshing getaway from the bustling city centre. It features a café-bar, a playground, public toilets and a small botanical garden at its entrance. It also hosts many cultural events and festivals during the summer, and the organic products open-air market every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The bust at the entrance of the park represents Minas Georgiadis, Mayor of Heraklion in 1934, who was arrested as a member of the Greek Resistance during the German occupation, was imprisoned and executed in Gazi (June 2, 1942) along with the 62 Martyrs.
